Goldrausch 2023 – on the edge of
"From September 30 to November 26, 2023, the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt will present recent works by 15 Berlin-based, international women* artists at galerie weisser elefant. With Goldrausch 2023 – on the edge of, the professionalization programme presents the final exhibition of its 33rd year. The group exhibition is a cooperation with the Department of Art, Culture and History of the Berlin-Mitte district and is curated by Laure Catugier and Hannah Kruse.
Under the title Goldrausch 2023 – on the edge of the 15 participants of the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt present excerpts from their current production. Analogue experimental film, video and sound installations, conceptual photography, painting, tapestries, performance, and sculptures.
In their works, the artists negotiate feminist perspectives on history and popular culture, changes in our environment in the age of the Anthropocene, and multi-perspectival narratives of everyday rituals and economics. Conceptually, they explore media and content boundaries – edges – and reveal in-between spaces and transformation processes. Along these edges, the artists’ works invite reflection: On social or ecological changes, artistic genres and materials. In this way, the exhibition Goldrausch 2023 – on the edge of encourages us to question existing systems and to develop possibilities for transformation.
As a one-year professionalization course, the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt promotes outstanding artistic positions by women*. During the course, the participants focus on their professional development in a supportive community and, at the same time, show their work across different platforms to the public. Since 1989, this renowned professional development project – one of a kind in Germany – has been supporting women* artists in opening up their individual career paths and presenting their work to a wide-ranging audience.
The exhibition is curated by Laure Catugier (Goldrausch alumna 2017) and Hannah Kruse.

'Metaphysics of Core Matter' is a foundational interrogation of contemporary materials at the intersection of art, research and industry. Artist Silja Yvette explores packaging bodies in their problematic dimensions and expansion for the environment. In the social context, packaging bodies are to be understood as archetypes of consumption - mass-produced articles made of foam, Styrofoam, aluminum, which are already worthless at the moment of their destination. These materials, which are quickly disposed of in everyday life, are taken care of by Silja Yvette and raised to a symbolic pedestal. A new value is ascribed to them with a reference to what they actually stand for: an image of the contemporary reality of accelerated life. A construction kit of modernity. With a sensual aesthetic and iconic staging that provokes the foreign in the familiar, Silja Yvette invites the viewers of her works to come into closer contact with their motifs. In this way, the foreign in the familiar leads to a confrontation with the everyday in an extraordinary dimension of perception and resistance at the same time, a being touched as an impetus for reflections on sustainability and feelings about our earth, world and our own actions.

"The IMAGO LISBOA Photo Festival is a landmark event in the national and international photography panorama.
In 2022 in this 4th edition, Disturbances are the concept of aggregation of the festival.
The current society has lived, cyclically, disturbing moments of different intensities and types. Of course, the current pandemic was probably the repeal of the biggest post-World War II disturbance. Its dimension had a globality never before existing, revealing many of the weaknesses of political and economic systems, but also revealing the capacity of the international scientific community to respond. But in addition to this pandemic, there are many other disturbances facing the planet. Pollution and recurrent ecological disasters have been on the agenda of several summits; social and domestic violence have made several headlines; mental and physical disorders have increased; migrations resulting from flight from wars and shortages of livelihoods; financial scandals, there are many examples of possible approach, study and reflection. ..." An exhibition about the mandatory duality of our existence, the need to focus and act from our individual standpoint in the here and the now, yet also be present and dispersed and generous in and with our surrounding all the while looking towards future.
It is an exhibition about being (required to be) present in multiple places or circumstances at the same time. About the need to wear different hats, or shoes, or whatever clothing item you prefer. It is an exhibition about both: presence and projection, the dichotomy of human existence, the need to under-and-over-estimate ourselves on a constant basis.

Working on temporary sculptures: "This falling away from the things we desire will be staged, piled up, crowned by me. It is the fiction of a rising material, but it also shows its transience and the rational hubris of its inventor. My work as an artist is a temporary arrangement of a chaotic environmental condition and a joke with presentation forms in the context of art exhibitions, of the white cube and the pedestal culture, so to say of what needs to be viewed in a concentrated and contemplative sideline. A subtle play with the assumptions regarding myth and progress, practical solutions and their ecological downsides."

WIESBADEN | FEBRUARY – APRIL 2020
Opening: 29th February 2020 | 6 p.m.
Duration: 1st March - 10th April 2020

In Collective Creatures, Silja Yvette draws attention to artificial and natural materials, as well as to the effects of mass and energy in space and time. In her photographs objects and places—from caves and abandoned buildings, to quarries, shop windows, found pieces, volcanos, and atomic events—become “collective creatures,” which make it possible to understand forces that are difficult to visualize, such as transformation, expansion, and omnipresence. There is something inherently mythical about these things that opposes the calculability desired by humans. With her strongly compositional images freed from their cultural context, Silja Yvette’s artistic process takes aim at associative contexts. Critically, and with sensitivity, she shows their relationship to the subtle permeation of microparticles and radiation on the one hand, and to the massive upheaval of the earth’s materials perpetrated by human-led corporations and human inventions.

Subtle, uncanny and at the same time perceptive – the photographs of Silja Yvette »evoke associations ranging from ironic reflection to elegiac allusion, from the fragility of being to a certain longing for the elementary« (Annekathrin Müller, Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation). At the origin of »Season of Admin« is an unease regarding any socially organised and administered relationship to nature and things. The images deal with issues related to the self-description of a subject that considers itself autonomous and on the other hand with the agency of things, assuming an understanding of hybrid forms of actions.
The new publication contains remarkable full size photographic tableaus and an artist book like rich choice of different papers.

Pollution and recurrent ecological disasters have been on the agenda of several summits; social and domestic violence have made several headlines; mental and physical disorders have increased; migrations resulting from flight from wars and shortages of livelihoods; financial scandals, there are many examples of possible approach, study and reflection. ..." PARIS | DECEMBER 2020 – MARCH 2021
An exhibition about the mandatory duality of our existence, the need to focus and act from our individual standpoint in the here and the now, yet also be present and dispersed and generous in and with our surrounding all the while looking towards future.
